Sex Is Fun

Ha. I gotcha. I don't want you to skip over this one just because it talks about adultery and evil women. Advice to one (as it relates to God) pertains to both male and female. This book was, however, probably written to upper-class young men.

Gaining knowledge and wisdom at an early age can keep you from lots of trouble in life. It is nice to always have something to fall back on. You may not always be able to reach the one who you trust most. My mom died of cancer at just about the age of when I was decided "she was right." I was 21 when I was realizing that all of the things she taught me and was trying to teach me what useful and needed for my life. Now, there are times when I would give anything to hear her voice and ask her advice. There are no calls to Heaven, though. I have to carry the words she left me in my heart and soul.

Yes, Proverbs 5 talks about adultery. Everyone has relationships. That's how God wired us. Apply this advice to those relationships. Stay faithful. Don't stray. Take the advice that has been given to you. In the end, you don't want to say, "I wish I would have listened."
Proverbs 5
My son, pay attention to my wisdom. Lend your ear to my understanding that you may preserve discretion and your lips may keep knowledge. For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey and her moth is smother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps lay hold of hell. Lest you ponder her path of life--her ways are unstable; you do not know them.
Therefore, hear me now, my children, and do not depart from the words of my mouth. Remove your way from her, and do not go near the door of her house, lest you give your honor to others, and your ears to the cruel one; lest aliens be filled with your wealth and your labors go to the house of a foreigner, and your flesh and body are consumed. And say, "How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised correction! I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me! I was on the verge of total ruin, in the midst of the assembly and congregation."
Drink water from your own cistern and running water from you own well. Should your fountains be dispersed abroad, streams of water in the streets? Let them be only your own and not for strangers with you. Let your fountain be blessed and rejoice with the wife of your youth. As a loving deer and a graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times; and always be enraptured with her love. For why should you, my son, be enraptured by an immoral woman and be embraced in the arms of a seductress?
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD and He ponders all his paths. His own iniquities entrap the wicked man and he is caught in the cords of sin. He shall die for lack of instruction and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

I think this speaks frankly but just in case it isn't clear to you: sex is fun and great, but it is sacred and not meant to be exercised with everyone you meet. God blesses the marriage bed and those faithful to it. You can have all the sex you want, just do it with the one God has created specifically for you. There are those that will try to trap you with sex and can easily do so. Things that feel "good" are not always right, and the wrong path is certainly easier than a righteous and pure path.

Guys and gals, don't give yourself away so freely. You were purchased with a price by God and that makes you a precious commodity, especially your sex life. You are worth far more than a one-night stand, casual sex, a friend with benefits, or even sex with someone you care about deeply.

Don't hear what I'm not saying...please. I am not saying that if you have had sex that you are worth nothing. Not at all. You are still worth the world to God. I promise. Just heed the advice of this chapter.

God does not approve of cheating or promiscuity. That's the bottom line.
